How much is an outgoing Mk6 GTI with a manual worth when in "wolfsburg edition" trim? According to VW USA, less than 26,000$. But this is far under-valued according to my local dealer. What do they price it at? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! when there is NOT A SINGLE POSSIBLE F&^%ING WAY THEY PAID 29K FOR THAT THING. This basically throws the GTI out of my potential car shopping list. I'm going to call them again tomorrow but when I called them about a month ago, they were serious about that price. I'm not even going to bother if they want to waste my time like that. I'd take a ford fiesta ST for going on 7 grand cheaper EVERY F*&^ING DAY of the week.

Focus and Fiesta STs are both superior IMO but then again I'm biased.

It's not so much that the STs are better as much as it is the Mk6 GTI is meant to be competitively priced but this dealer is literally overcharging to the point where it makes no sense to buy one. None at all. And they don't want to budge even when I pointed out that they are grossly overcharging AND LYING to potential customers. It's like they think having the only manual GTI in the area means they can charge whatever they want.....

Prices are negotiable at most dealers. Call them up and offer 25k

The biggest problem here is Michigan, why haven't you escaped yet?

Yeah, I'm guessing they're not taking you seriously. If you are serious, determine what you're willing to pay and make them an offer. And of course they didn't pay $29k for it - they're trying to make a profit, which is how a business works! Good luck, I would love to own that car.

There is a difference between making a profit and lying to make a profit.

Don't get too distraught, it is definitely an error. I manage a dealership (unrelated) in MI, and am all too familiar with Dealer.com websites. Generally the layout is okay, and the manufacturers love them, but they are horribly homogeneous. Perhaps the biggest sin of all, however, is their use of stock photos. I also know that inventory feed comes direct from the manufacturer, and while usually correct, there are errors from time to time. It can also be modified by the dealership (for aftermarket add-ons, additional photos, descriptions, etc.) and it is likely that someone hit the wrong drop down menu on the editor (very few internet personnel are tech saavy, BTW). So it is most likely a Driver's Edition.
They do, however, have one that is surely a Wolfsburg Edition:

So check that one out!

there's always the 40% rule...walk in, tell 'em you'll pay 40% of the invoice price, and if they scoff, then leave. not all dealers will scoff.

I don't really get how they're lying... but I may just be old and jaded or something. Retailers can price products at whatever price they want (unless controlled by the manufacturer). They're not forcing anyone to buy it from them. Maybe I'm missing something.

The lie would be they told someone what the invoice was, but that isn't really the invoice which is what was implied in the article. I agree they can ask however much they want. But if they said the invoice was X but it really was Y, then they're lying and that's the problem.

Least it's not BMW.
BMW dealers make a few thousand, even selling at manufacturer designated-invoice.
